EU influence

A significant part of our legislation is made in the EU, and it is one of the largest economic areas in the world. The EU's competitiveness stems from the functioning of the internal market, which is also the lifeblood of Finnish companies. Construction is increasingly affected by EU regulation.

Influencing EU legislation requires persistence and systematicity. We carry out EU interest monitoring ourselves and in cooperation with, among others, the Swedish Confederation of Business and Industry EK and the umbrella organization of European contractors, FIEC (European Construction Industry Federation) with.

RT's EU advocacy consists, among other things, of drawing up common positions with European umbrella organizations and meetings and communication with, for example, Commission officials, MEPs and stakeholders. We also work closely with Nordic organizations and operators in the construction industry.

Our EU advocacy focuses especially on regulations that directly affect the operations of our member companies, as well as on other topics that are significant for the construction industry. We also do advocacy together with our member companies.

Currently, the most significant EU themes and regulatory projects for the construction industry are

Transport and logistics

  • Securing financing for Finland's TEN-T network and a vision for Finland's logistical connections to the west
  • Military mobility and the Union's overall defence as part of transport policy

Housing and financial market regulation

  • Re-evaluation of Basel regulation and preparation of transaction guideline
  • Possible guarantee models for both renovation and new construction

Public procurement

  • Evaluation of the public procurement directives

Circular economy

  • Development of the Circular Economy Act (2026) to ensure efficient circulation of materials
