Digitalization of the built environment

The Built Environment Digitalization (RYD) project is the largest digitalization project in the real estate and construction industry to date. The project is building a foundation for standardized, interoperable and machine-readable information. The goal is to find concrete ways to support work on construction sites and in offices, and to improve productivity, quality and customer experience across the entire value chain.

The Digitalization of the Built Environment project is coordinated by the Finnish Construction Industry Association (RT), the Construction Information Foundation (RTS) and Construction Information Model Ltd.

We are compiling current information about the project on this page.

The project is important because…

Built environment information must flow through construction production chains in a standardized, interoperable and machine-readable format throughout the life cycle.

Productivity

With compatible and digital information, we can improve the productivity and quality of our industry.

Knowledge-based management and optimization

We create the conditions to optimize, for example, workflow, information flow between processes, and design solutions.

Automation

We are able to reduce error-prone and productivity-eroding manual work.

In the RYD project, we create a data foundation for the digitalization of the industry, which will help

  • the client can order the implementation of the construction project digitally
  • Design is digitally connected to the product industry and the construction industry
  • The construction project creates digital delivery material for the client in machine-readable format for asset management and maintenance.
  • We enable the automation of building maintenance and upkeep processes and enable the efficient reuse and recycling of built environment products.
