The common ethical principles of the construction industry have been created as guidelines for fair and honest operations. The principles were formed at the initiative of RT's board of directors and have been approved at the association's fall meeting in 2017. The purpose is to encourage all member companies and industry operators, including subscribers, to commit to openness, transparency and responsibility.
1. Respect all parties.
Act fairly and fairly in relation to personnel, customers and contractual partners, competitors, authorities and other stakeholders.
2. Turn the trick from afar.
Do not take or make an assignment that violates the law or is in conflict with the general understanding of law.
3. Act professionally.
Follow good construction and contracting practices. Do the work professionally, in compliance with the legislation and the agreements you make, as well as safety, environmental and quality requirements. Respect the decisions of the Consumer Disputes Board and the court. Require this from your contractual partners as well.
4. Oppose the gray economy.
Promote healthy competition and the operating conditions of companies that manage their obligations responsibly. Comply with labor, tax and accounting legislation, the Subscriber Liability Act and other laws and collective agreements. Require that all your contractual partners and actors in the contract chain act in the same way.
5. Do not engage in corruption.
Giving and receiving bribes is prohibited. Do not offer or accept gifts, trips or other benefits that cannot be considered reasonable and part of normal hospitality or that could lead to a conflict of interest. Particular care must be taken in dealing with authorities and, for example, the Ministry of Finance instructions on trips paid for by parties outside the agency.
6. Follow common principles.
Follow Rakennusteollisuus RT ry's rules and guidelines that promote ethics, which include, among other things, ethical guidelines for construction sites and production facilities and guidelines for compliance with competition legislation (as well as internal principles of contracting and material suppliers).
7. Address abuses.
If you suspect that an operator is violating ethical principles or the law, point it out to the parties involved and, if necessary, file a report with the authorities.
The principles have been drawn up by Rakennusteollisuus RT ry, whose members commit to complying with them. RT's board recommends the introduction of ethical principles throughout the industry.
