At the end of September, 9th graders at Eura Co-educational School were able to see the everyday life of the construction industry up close, meet professionals, and learn about various work tasks under the guidance of professionals from Rakennustyöt Ville Kauppi Oy.

Young people from Eura Co-educational School visited the Pyhäjärvi Institute office construction site and the company's office in Kauttua, guided by personnel from Rakennustyöt Ville Kauppi Oy. The young people had the opportunity to talk to experts in the field and hear from them what work in the construction industry is like in practice and what different career opportunities the industry offers.
The day's program at the construction site included, in addition to career stories, getting to know construction machinery and various quick tasks related to the construction industry. At the office, presentations were given on various work tasks, a career test was conducted, and a playful competition, the hammering championship, with prizes, was held. The goal of the day was to familiarize the construction industry in the most concrete and interesting way possible. And they succeeded in that perfectly! Check out the video.
The attractiveness of the industry is built through genuine encounters
The Eura Day was implemented in collaboration with the Finnish Building Construction Industry Association and a member company of the Satakunta district.
"It's a so-called mini version" Open work sites from the day.I am German."The day provides an opportunity to see construction tasks where they are actually done," says the regional expert from the Finnish Building Construction Industry Association, who organized the day. Kati Kuoksa.
The idea started when the Satakunta district government was considering how to implement attraction work in an agile and local manner.
Meetings between young people play an important role in the long-term attraction of the construction industry. A visit to a construction site or a conversation with a professional in the field can open up a whole new perspective for a young person on what the construction industry entails.
“For example, how can you apply for a TET internship if you don't even know about the opportunities in the field?” says Kuoksa.
The involvement of member companies is key in this work: an authentic work environment and the stories of professionals in the industry show young people concretely what the construction industry is like and what opportunities it can offer.
