#KIRAriskDD project results seminar Wed 11.6.2025 at 14.30 – 16.00 (Teams)

The open webinar will present a method for managing environmental and human rights risks in building materials, developed jointly by developers, construction companies and material manufacturers in spring 2025. It is risk-based and targeted, and can be used in practical construction projects.

The value chains of the real estate and construction industry are riddled with environmental and human rights risks related to building materials, for which there have been no effective and cost-effective methods of managing them. A project led by KIRAHub has developed an operating model that allows industry players to identify potential problems related to the origin of raw materials. Risks are particularly associated with metal-containing construction products and green transition solutions.

Similarly, building material manufacturers are bombarded with various sustainability-related surveys. One of the goals of the project is to rationalize the surveys and create a common model so that the surveys are meaningful to the surveyors and efficient for the respondents to answer.

The spring 2025 development project involved 27 Finnish developers, construction companies and material manufacturers, working together to determine what a due diligence process could look like in the Finnish real estate and construction sector. The Finnish Construction Industry (RT) and Property Owners and Developers Association (RAKLI) are also involved. The project is also part of the implementation of RT's responsibility program. The project was implemented with the support of the TT Foundation.

The results seminar will clarify, among other things, what risk countries are and what the control point model applied to the Finnish rental sector based on the OECD model is like. It will also present a model for a unified questionnaire.

The event is intended for those interested in sustainability and responsibility, as well as for procurement and business management at building material manufacturers, construction companies, and developers.
