Back in that spring, I felt as if I could have just as well written a collection of Finnish proverbs. Modesty beautifies. Silence is golden. Where there is luck, let it hide the luck. I'm nothing, and I don't get involved... But I'm happy to write about the excellent participants of the Rakentaminen Laatuteko 2016 competition, which, after the quiet life at the beginning of the registration period, accumulated quite comfortably.
Although praising a friend, or even less oneself, is not the custom in our country, a total of 44 entries were received in the Laatuteko contest - either individual builders or a group of employees. The competition proved what was already known in theory: there are many professionals in the construction industry in Finland, for whom quality is a matter of the heart. If openly demonstrating our professional pride and competence were any more natural to us, the number of participants could easily have been zero.
The level of competition turned out to be very high. Every one of the 44 participants would have deserved a place in the final. What was also pleasing was how diverse the group of participants was - the entire construction industry is represented, from carpenters to decorative painters and from plumbers to the corresponding masters. In the end, eight contestants passed the jury's strict screening. Like the entire group of participants, the finalist guard also includes professionals of different ages from different fields, both employees and foremen.
Versatility. Stance. The right mood for doing things. Long-term quality factor. The act of quality cannot be just a single coincidence. These themes came up in the jury's discussions when choosing the finalists. Everyone involved in the final is united by the idea that achieving a high-quality end result is a matter of will. The contestants highlighted cooperation with all project parties, good advance planning, avoiding unnecessary haste and, above all, an unyielding attitude towards achieving a high-quality end result as the keys to achieving quality.
Each finalist has also been able to tell the general public about their work and thoughts related to quality. In addition to the process of making and the quality of the final product, one very important point also emerged in the video interviews: the quality of the customer experience. The creator of good quality never forgets the end customer's role and experience in the project. In all its simplicity, the thing is that people build for people.
The top eight of the Rakentaminen Laatuteko competition are a good and representative group of Finnish quality builders, of which anyone could be the winner. The jury has now done its work and from now on it will be continued by Minister Kimmo Tiilikainen, who will choose the quality creator to be awarded in the competition. The winner will be announced on 13.10. In connection with the FinnBuild trade fair, at the Fair's Awards Party.
