A new international mentoring program for higher education institutions in the construction industry will start in the fall, and we hope that our member companies will join us in mentoring future experts. The program is coordinated by Aalto University, Tampere University, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Häme University of Applied Sciences. The universities will help find suitable actor-mentor pairs.

The mentoring program aims to jointly secure the attractiveness and diversity of the future of the construction industry. The retirement trend in the construction industry will challenge the industry's ability to function, as 2038% of the workforce will retire by 35. The shrinking age groups cannot replace those retiring. There are many international students in the industry at universities, who find it difficult to connect with networks and integrate into working life.
"We hope that as many of our member companies as possible will participate in the mentoring program. It will give the company the opportunity to increase its own capabilities by developing a diverse work community, and at the same time it will improve the company's business opportunities in the future competition for talent," says RT's leading expert. Saku Lehtinen.
Universities want to offer mentoring cooperation with a low threshold. You can join from different starting points and with a flexible schedule. In addition to universities, the program includes RT, RIL, RIA, ATL and SKOL.
Why and how to join the program?
- As a mentor, you can support a student's career development and understanding of Finnish work culture, as well as enhance the company's image.
- At the same time, you can develop your own language skills and cultural understanding, as well as those of your work community.
- You can structure mentoring sessions around your own schedule. A successful actor-mentor relationship requires commitment and collaboration.
- You can do mentoring as individual or group mentoring.
- The universities are responsible for coordination, including helping to find suitable actor-mentor pairs.
Contact your local educational institution by the end of August: Universities help companies find suitable actors.
