Autumn will soon bring with it cool weather, and the need to ensure that the temperature in the home remains pleasant. Right now is a good time to check that the heating system is in good condition and ready for operation. Repairing defects in a home that has already cooled down is not a comfortable option.

Make sure the heating system is in working order
LVI-Tekniset Urakoitsijat LVI-TU special expert Juha-Ville Mäkinen before the start of the heating season, it is important to check the functioning of the heating system.
"The heating system doesn't need much periodic maintenance, but especially during the summer downtime, the valves can get stuck or air accumulates in the radiators. If defects occur, it is better to fix them while the weather is still good. Installers can also be arrived faster now."
Anticipation is the secret to success
According to Mäkinen, the property owner should check the following in particular:
- Operation of the heating device: Check that the boiler, heat pump or other heating device is working flawlessly. If there are problems with the operation of the device, it is a good idea to order maintenance. If your system has a summer lock, it can now be opened.
- Operation of thermostats: Make sure that the thermostats on the radiators work and are adjusted correctly. Also check that they are properly attached and that there are not, for example, thick curtains in front of them preventing the effect of the actual room temperature.
- Ventilation and vents for radiators: It is good to clean the ventilation ducts and air conditioners. In particular, heat recovery and the tightness of the filters should be checked. You should also make sure that there are no air pockets in the radiators, which reduce the heating efficiency. Bleed the radiators if necessary.
- Optimization of energy consumption: When starting the heating, it's a good idea to also check the system's temperature settings and time controls. Usage habits play a major role in energy consumption. The temperature level should be set in such a way that unnecessary heating of the premises is avoided. As energy costs rise, even small measures can bring considerable savings.
