The champion of the year knows a challenging basic improvement - without forgetting a good work atmosphere

Master builder Jari Vaatinen has been chosen as the champion of the year 2023 of the Southwest Finland district of the house building industry. The justification for the choice was the fundamental improvement of an unusual, architecturally and economically historically valuable site in good cooperation with the client and on schedule. The board of the association also appreciated the candidate's long work experience.

Jari Vaatinen's enthusiasm for construction started early: Jari's father worked as a carpenter, and Jari accompanied his father to summer jobs. Vaatinen graduated as a master builder in 1994 and has worked for Rakennustoimisto Lainio & Laivoranta Oy since 1997. "This shows a strong commitment to the work and the employer," describes Lainio & Laivoranta's technical director. Pekka Anttila.

"Jari is goal-oriented and self-developing, whose good pre-planning skills lead projects to good results in terms of quality and finances. The working atmosphere is also good at Jari's sites. Jari was a clear choice for our company's Champion of the Year candidate and I am proud that we have a construction professional like Jari," says Anttila.

The basis for the Champion of the Year selection was TVT Asunnot Oy's challenging renovation project on Rauhankatu. The object in question is an architecturally valuable entity, which has housed e.g. The Seres confectionery factory, where Sisu pastilles were made. The fundamental improvement of a historical site differs in many ways from the usual renovation.

Client's representative, TVT's construction supervisor Matti Isotalo says that from the developer's point of view, it was great that in a demanding project the site was managed by a very professional and also proud foreman in charge of his profession. At the construction site, there was always trust between the project parties and the surprises of the old structures that came up, even challenging in places, were always handled in good cooperation, thinking about a good common end result for everyone - new high-quality rental homes.

Master of the Year awards have been awarded since 1982. The annual reward is based on significant construction-related merits. The effort is to emphasize the importance of the work management of building construction sites.
