The joint application for spring 2024 has started: There are versatile study paths for professional and university students in the construction industry

The second joint application period for universities in the spring is March 13–27.3.2024, 2024. The joint application period after basic education in spring 19.3 ends on March XNUMX.

"Almost 4 basic degrees in construction are completed every year. After a vocational degree or high school, you can continue your studies in the field of construction at a university of applied sciences or a university: a university of applied sciences graduates as a civil engineer or master builder, and at a university, for example, a master's degree in construction and community engineering. About 000 people graduate from universities of applied sciences and about 1 from universities each year," says Rakennusteollisuus RT's education policy expert Saku Lehtinen.

The challenging economic situation may make those applying for studies in the field wonder - will there be jobs for graduates in the future?

"Already in the near future, many industry experts will retire and we need new experts to replace them. The construction industry also plays a significant role as a solution to the green transition and a user of the possibilities of digitalization, so a new kind of professional expertise is needed. Students starting their studies now will probably graduate in a completely different situation," he says Leafy.

Lehtinen also encourages companies in the construction industry to offer internships and summer jobs to young people. "These young people are future construction industry professionals. Good experiences from summer jobs can prove to be valuable when the competition for skilled labor gets tougher again."
