The voluntary commitment accelerates the recycling of plastics in construction

Film plastics used in packaging and interior protection in construction often end up as energy waste, even though they contain valuable recycling potential.

"By entering into a voluntary plastics green deal agreement, the company shows that it uses plastics responsibly and wants to participate in the promotion of the circular economy in construction," says the product manager Tuuli Kunnas Construction industry from RT.

When recycled, film plastic is returned to the market as products, and at the same time emissions from burning are reduced. By the end of 2027, 40 percent of the raw materials used in production should be recycled film plastics.

"Individual companies can participate in the environmental talks of plastic recycling by making their own commitment on the site sitaumus2050.fi. It is a clear way for the company to increase the use of plastics made from recycled materials in the construction supply chain and construction," Kunnas explains.

Construction plastics green deal is one important step forward towards effective reduction of emissions and carbon neutrality. In addition to promoting the circular economy, the agreement seeks solutions to climate challenges, the reduction of biodiversity and overconsumption of natural resources.

Several industries are involved in the agreement, from the production of film plastics to packaging, from trade to those implementing construction projects and contracts, and from experts in the circular economy to re-production.

"An important addition to the success of the contract is that the Municipal Association has been brought in as a representative of the contracting party," Kunnas states.

In addition to RT, business life is represented in the agreement by the Chemical Industry, the Plastics Industry, the Construction and Interior Supply Trade Association RASI, the Electrical Trade Association, the Technical Trade Association and Environmental Industry and Services YTP.

Motiva has produced a free online training on Construction plastics. It is suitable, among other things, for those ordering and executing construction projects and contracts, the product industry and the trade sector, as well as the management of construction sites.
