The responsible foreman of Jatke Länsi-Suomi Oy, Jari Somppi, has been chosen as the Champion of the Year 2019 in the Southwest Finland district of the building construction industry.
Construction master Jari Somp has been recognized for his distinguished and long career as a responsible foreman in the Turku region. Jari has been involved in building many kinds of projects with different contract models. Jari's strengths are his long experience, especially in housing construction and new production. He also has experience in special projects and demanding renovations.
In addition to Jatke, Jari has worked in many other construction companies since 1988 as a responsible foreman and also as a work manager.
With a firm grip, Jari guides those working on the site to do quality work and also appreciate the work done by others.
"Workplace cleanliness, occupational safety and adherence to schedules are important things to me in my own work. Responsibility must also be given to the entire construction site organization and care must be taken of the good collective spirit of the construction site," emphasizes the winner.
The construction site that was the basis of the selection and completed in 2019 was Varusmestarintie 17. It was a project implemented as a KVR contract, the challenges of which were the logistics within the construction site and the traffic passing through the construction site to the neighboring plot. In addition, there were many children who attended the Turku Lyseo school walking next to the construction site. The safety of young school children has been particularly important to Jari when planning the site's operations.
The construction of the site started in May 2018. The project consisted of three apartment buildings in Runosmäki, Turku. The scope of the site was 10931 brm² and the buildings had a total of 191 apartments. Two of the buildings were senior apartment buildings and one was a rental apartment building. The houses were handed over to the customer in stages. Senior apartment buildings were built for YH-Kodi and TVT-Asunni. The last apartment building built for YH-Kodei was completed in August 2020.
Jari lives in Paimio and graduated as a master builder from Pori Technical School in 1988. Jari's hobbies and free time include fishing, recreational ice hockey, stage dancing, the gym and janitor's work at home and at the cottage.
The annual Master of the Year award is based on significant merits related to construction. The effort is especially to emphasize the importance of the work management of building construction sites. The champion of the year has been chosen and named annually since 1982.
