The wheels of the economy turn faster when the road and rail network is put in good condition. Perusväyläpito offers jobs for infrastructure builders evenly throughout Finland.
The government is launching a program to reduce the repair debt, which will use around 600 million euros by the end of 2018. Investments are mainly financed with property income. In addition, there will be a total increase of 564 million euros in the funding of the maintenance of the basic highways for the years 2017–2020, which will be covered by cutting a total of 704 million euros from new transport projects in the corresponding period.
"The wheels of traffic and the entire economy will turn faster when our road and railway network is in good condition. In addition, basic road maintenance offers jobs to infrastructure builders evenly across Finland", CEO of Rakennusteollisuus RT ry Tarmo Pipatti toteaa.
The aim is to strongly increase the construction of rental apartments with the help of a new ten-year interim model and by changing the conditions of state-subsidized apartments.
"In order to increase housing construction, the plans have a delightfully versatile selection of means. There are also new types of openings, such as finding out whether government-subsidized rental apartments could be obtained from self-financed housing production," says Pipatti.
The government's program includes numerous measures called for by the construction industry to increase plot production, lighten regulations and streamline permit processes. When implemented, these will get investments moving and reduce construction costs.
"It is important that the state initiates infrastructure projects serving growth centers and requires municipalities to increase land and housing production in the area in return. Now the state is tying together these key community building blocks also in the government's division of labor, when the tasks of the minister of transport and housing are combined with the same minister", thanks Pipatti.
Pipatti also hopes for the social contract to be implemented, which would create stability for the labor market and the economy. If the agreement is not implemented, 50 million euros will be cut from infrastructure investments on an annual basis and the mortgage interest deduction will be removed completely.
