The 2019 Surface Contractor recognition has been awarded to A. Nieminen Maalausliike Oy from Helsinki. The company has been operating for 111 years and is constantly investing in the future by training and employing young people. This time, the expert jury that made the selection emphasized long traditions, high competence and adaptability. The recognition was granted at the annual meeting of Pintaurakoitsijat ry on April 5.
A. Nieminen's Maalausliike is a painting company specializing largely in repair construction and interior renovations, whose business includes not only actual leveling and painting work, but also other work necessary for apartment renovations. The company operates especially in the capital region. Its turnover has stabilized at around 3,5 million euros and the number of personnel around 25 people. He has been the company's CEO and principal owner since 2001 Arto Lindvall.
In the selection, the jury paid attention to excellent customer relations and personnel matters. In the jury's opinion, the flexibility, quality and ability to listen to the customer's needs of A. Nieminen's Painting Shop are evidenced by the satisfied customers and exceptionally long customer relationships. Most of the work is done for established customers using the company's own employees.
"We have very low turnover and long working relationships. What is essential is mutual trust, teamwork and employees' self-direction," says Arto Lindvall, CEO of Maalausliike A. Nieminen.
In addition to the actual contracting work, the jury noted Lindvall's activities in the field of education and youth. The Helsinki School of Painting has become familiar to Lindvall not only through his own master painter studies, but also through several years of activity on the board of the school of painting.
According to the jury, appreciation and interest in the future of the industry can also be seen in the active employment of young people. The typical way to get a job at A. Nieminen's painting shop is an internship alongside studies, a summer job and, after graduation, signing a permanent employment relationship. Almost half of the current employees have joined the company after completing their studies at the Helsinki School of Painting.
Maalausliike, founded by Armas Nieminen in 1908 in Töölö, is Finland's oldest still operating painting shop. Initially, the company focused exclusively on leveling and painting work, but the range of services was gradually expanded from the 1990s.
Today, the key word for success is high competence in the chosen segment. The company specializes in apartment renovations and offers work on a full-service basis. In addition to the actual leveling and painting work, it performs all necessary work, from kitchen installations to wet room and sauna renovations and electrical work.
