A project aimed at halving the emissions of concrete construction will start

The LOIKKA project jointly prepared by the concrete industry and Aalto University has been granted funding from Business Finland. The goal of the LOIKKA project is to halve the carbon dioxide emissions of concrete construction from the current level. The project aims to reduce emissions by more than 500 tons of carbon dioxide annually, which is about one percent of Finland's total emissions.

In addition to the core project of around 700 euros implemented by Aalto University, the LOIKKA project includes several significant projects implemented by companies or business groups, as well as international scientific cooperation with the Norwegian University of Technology, NTNU. The companies participating in the project will inform about their sub-projects independently.

According to Business Finland's view, the LOIKKA joint project has a significant positive impact on reducing the carbon dioxide emissions of the domestic concrete industry. The project develops low-carbon solutions that aim for systemic change in the traditional industry of construction. The project supports the Carbon Neutral Finland 2035 goal and creates the conditions for Finland to become a pioneer in low-carbon construction.

According to Business Finland, the LOIKKA joint project enables companies to increase their responsible business operations and export competitiveness. According to its assessment, the project consortium includes a good value chain from manufacturers of cement and admixtures and equipment to manufacturers of concrete, concrete elements and blocks. The project promotes extensive cooperation between small and large companies and research.

Funding for the project has been granted from the "Low-carbon built environment" program, whose funds come from the European RRF recovery instrument.

The project starts at the beginning of March and will last about two years.
