The Green Transition

The built environment and construction play a significant role in the transition towards an ecologically sustainable economy that is not based on overconsumption of natural resources and fossil fuels. The construction industry is committed to Finland's climate goals. The industry offers a wide range of solutions for increasing energy efficiency, the development leap of the circular economy and the promotion of biodiversity.

Low carbon

The built environment produces 35 percent of Finland's greenhouse gas emissions, the majority of which is the energy consumption of buildings, and construction accounts for 6 percentage points. In order to reduce emissions, we need technically functional and economically sound regulation of carbon emissions, land use planning that leads to a compact social structure, doubling renovation construction and R&D investments.

Circular economy

The construction industry is the fifth largest industry affecting land use in Finland. The industry uses almost a third of the raw materials and causes half of the deforestation. The circular economy of construction has considerable potential to reduce harmful and increase positive effects on nature. This requires removing barriers to the circular economy and promoting the use of recycled materials and products.
