With the help of standardized digital product information management, construction sites are part of a genuine digital supply chain, where builders, building administrators and users can utilize product information throughout the building's life cycle. The product information management of the supply chain should already be included in the planning phase of the construction project, so that productivity and quality can be improved.
RT's goal is the flow of digitized product information in the supply chain, and for this a separate Supply Chain Product Information Management development project has been established at the beginning of 2023. The goal of the development project is to create the world's first standardized way to identify the individual product information and supply chain information of so-called project products (for example, concrete elements).
Standardized product information is not only limited to product information, but it provides a real-time snapshot of the supply chain from the factory to the installation site and creates the conditions to create a digital parts list of the building being completed, including all product information. If all building materials and structural components had a unique digital identifier, the right building products would be delivered in appropriate batches to the right place, at the right time. The real-time snapshot shows the product's eligibility, certificates and instructions for use.
An example of digitizing product information
Digitization of product information starts with product customization. Product customization is key so that national product databases can be used and utilized in planning, procurement, on construction sites and during use. One example of product information codes is the GTIN code, which has been used in the trade industry.
