Those who buy a new home feel they are getting more value for money

In a housing market plagued by uncertainty, the price gap between new and old homes has widened. At the same time, consumers who have purchased new homes have seen their value for money and their overall satisfaction with the construction company that delivered the home have reached record highs. The results are from the latest EPSI Rating survey measuring customer satisfaction in new home construction.

Customer satisfaction in new housing construction in 2025 was 78,8 and the value for money was estimated at approximately 82 index points. The index used by EPSI Rating is on a scale of 0-100 points, with over 75 points indicating very high satisfaction. The annual survey was now conducted for the tenth time, and the readings were the highest to date. Overall satisfaction was at the same level as in 2018.

“With the exception of one year, customer satisfaction in new residential construction has consistently remained at a level clearly higher than the average for other industries. EPSI Rating measures customer experience in Finland across a wide range of industries, from construction, energy and water supply to banking and insurance services, retail, healthcare, tourism, telecom operators and digital services,” EPSI Rating Country Director Finland Heidi Laitinen says.

Customers' assessment of construction companies' product quality was the best in measurement history. In product quality, staying on schedule and being error-free now became the most important factors.

The service index of construction companies rose to nearly 85 points, which, according to Laitinen, is a very high result even in a Nordic comparison of different industries.

"Building companies have developed their operations based on previous customer feedback and are now investing more in communication, clear process management and fast after-sales service. Buyers have said that they have been listened to, communication has been smooth even after the keys were handed over and complaints have been handled quickly," says Laitinen.

The location of the apartment and the functionality of the floor plan have remained the most important criteria for choosing an apartment, as assessed by customers. Floor plans also received high scores from customers.

YIT achieved the top result in the comparison

Since there were exceptionally few new apartments completed last year, three construction companies participated in the study this time. Of these, YIT came out on top, receiving consistently high ratings from its customers in various areas. YIT's score was almost 80, and it improved further in, among other things, product quality. Lujatalo achieved its record score, and Peab also maintained its customer satisfaction at a very high level.

The industry result also includes the Other group, whose companies' housing numbers were not sufficient for a separate comparison. Together with the Other group, the industry's results are comparable to previous years.

EPSI Rating

The EPSI Rating for New Home Construction industry index covers the results of the companies participating in the public ranking, which this time were three, as well as a separate Other group. The survey interviewed consumers who had purchased a home and who had received their new home in 2025, as well as the general population. In total, approximately 270 consumers were interviewed. EPSI Rating is an independent and non-profit academic organization.
