A consensus has been reached on the content of the new EU construction product regulation

A consensus has been reached between the representatives of the European Council of the member states and the representatives of the European Parliament on the content of the new act replacing the current Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

The entry into force of the regulation still requires the European Parliament's final consideration, but the process is well on its way to being implemented during the current parliament, before the upcoming summer elections.

In the new regulation, the basic structure of the internal market system for construction products, which is based on European harmonized product standards and the European technical evaluations that complement them, will be preserved.

However, the future new regulation will be significantly broader than the current one, including requirements regarding e.g. reusable construction products and the properties and performance levels of the products during their entire life cycle.

The transition to the procedures according to the new internal market act will take place gradually according to the European Commission's so-called through the CPR acquis process. In this process, the Commission's standardization mandates for the European standardization organization CEN are prepared by product group.

As a whole, the transition from the application of the current regulation to the new one will take well into the 2030s.
