The construction industry presents promises to the parliamentary elections instead of demands

Next spring's parliamentary elections have three challenges that cannot wait: the economy, security and the green transition. The well-being of people and society as a whole depends on these, and we want to participate in solving them, says Aleksi Randell, CEO of Rakennusteollisuus RT.

The construction industry RT has announced its parliamentary election goals, the construction industry's promises to Finland. They contain proposed solutions to critical questions to which the government must find answers in the next election period.

World political tensions have intensified, energy shortages have accelerated inflation to record highs, and uncertainty has halted economic growth. At the same time, the old challenges are still unresolved. Curbing climate change and nature loss requires urgent action. The income and expenditure of the public economy must be brought into balance, and Finland needs significantly more skilled labor.

"Now we need to make a policy that enables a stimulating and stable investment environment. We need investments especially to stimulate growth and innovation, but also to reform society to be more sustainable", CEO of RT Aleksi Randell toteaa.

"In a drastically changed operating environment, we decided to turn our own election goals into promises. With this, we emphasize our commitment to building a crisis-resistant and vibrant society. In order to fulfill our promises, we also need concrete actions from the decision-makers," says Randell.

RT promises Finland reasonably priced housing that meets needs, better logistical accessibility and reduced environmental impact.

"Sustainable urbanization requires sufficient housing production and energy-wise renovation construction. With connections to the east cut off, Finland is an island whose security of supply and logistics must be secured by creating strong waterway connections to the west. In addition, we need to significantly cut emissions and promote biodiversity," says Randell.

RT's new strategy guides the implementation of promises

At the fall meeting of Construction Industry RT on December 1, the organization's strategy for the years 2023–2028 was confirmed. RT's vision is a sustainably growing and safe Finland, where the importance of quality living spaces and construction as creators of well-being is understood. The strategy boils down to three themes: a competent and responsible construction industry, the conditions for growth and functioning markets, and the possibilities of a green transition.

"The green transition is at the center of our strategy, but it cannot be elevated above other themes. Its realization is enabled, for example, by a new kind of know-how, responsibility extending to everything we do, effective regulation and long-term development. The green transition is best realized when the entire chain of operations in construction and its partners look for solutions together," says Rakennusteollisuus RT, who will start as chairman Timo Vikström.

Timo Vikström is the CEO of the Kreate Group, which specializes in infrastructure construction, and he was elected at RT's fall meeting as the chairman of the board for the next two-year term.
