Construction industry RT has decided to reduce the number of accidents in member companies to a minimum by 2020. In order to speed up the goal of zero accidents, RT's member union INFRA ry has declared 2013 the year of safety in the infrastructure sector.
In the theme year of safety 2013, INFRA strongly promotes the use of occupational safety indicators.
With the help of meters, the safety level of different construction sites can be reliably and comparably monitored. At the construction site, the safety factors listed in the meter are reviewed and their condition is assessed on a clear, two-step scale; the measured thing is either okay or it's not okay.
INFRA ry represents builders of highways and technical networks as well as aggregate producers in RT. Three types of occupational safety meters have been developed for the needs of different infrastructure sites: the mvr meter serves most land and water construction workers, the crushing meter serves operators in the aggregates industry, and the asphalt meter serves asphalt manufacturers.
The meters provide feedback to support development. Under certain conditions, the Mvr measurement can also replace statutory weekly inspections.
The meter makes it possible to compete
Occupational safety indicators have also made it possible to compete in occupational safety. Competitions have long traditions; the safety competition in the aggregate industry based on the crushing meter is being held this year for the eighth time, and the asphalt meter has been used for twenty years.
In honor of the theme year, INFRA ry is launching a new nationwide occupational safety competition aimed at all infrastructure builders in Finland. In the Safe Infrastructure Site 2013 competition, the safety level is measured by the inspectors of the regional administrative agencies using the mvr meter. At the same time, the measurements are part of the normal inspection activities of regional administrative agencies. There are two series in the competition: above-ground and underground construction sites.
The goal of the competition is to draw attention to occupational safety and spread the use of the mvr meter. You can join even if you are not yet familiar with the meter. All participants receive feedback on their security situation.
Statistics and events
INFRA ry also collects statistics on the accident frequencies of its member companies and compiles the occupational safety statistics of various operators. In the theme year, the activities will continue.
Safety knowledge is also increased through information and training, and the topic is featured in the Infrarakentaja magazine. April 17.4.2013, XNUMX is INFRA's safety day.
