An equal workplace doesn't happen by chance – it is built through action.

An equal work environment is not just a goal, but a necessity in modern working life. It means that every person has an equal right to be treated as a valuable and equal member of the work community. It is not a buzzword, but a core principle that promotes a sustainable, fair and functional working life.

An equal organization does not discriminate against people based on factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability, or other personal characteristics. It also means removing barriers: physical, social, and attitudinal.

Equality in the workplace doesn’t happen by itself. It requires active work, such as identifying biases, improving recruitment practices, and building an open work culture. When people feel they are treated fairly and respectfully, they are more engaged, motivated, and productive. This is not only ethically right – it is also smart business.

Companies play a significant role in promoting equality and non-discrimination. Equality does not happen by chance. It requires conscious actions: equality plans, openness, management commitment and, above all, listening. Everyone's experience of working life is unique, and therefore all voices must be heard. A work community where equality is achieved is truly inclusive and multi-voiced. In such a work community, everyone can participate in developing the work environment, express their views and develop professionally.

We also support companies in promoting equality. As part of the construction industry's responsibility program, we will be preparing a guide for RT member companies in the coming year on how to take diversity, equality and non-discrimination into account in the work community, as well as models for equality and non-discrimination plans. In addition, we will offer member companies, for example, equality training, which will provide support for promoting diversity.

An equal working life is not a zero-sum game, but a situation where everyone wins. We each have a responsibility and an opportunity to influence what working life is like.

Equality is not just a goal – it is a way of doing things.
