A clean raksa communicates responsibility

The Baltic Sea Day, which is organized on August 29, draws attention to our important and easily polluted home sea. A healthy, comfortable and safe sea for everyone is litter-free.

Beach litter monitoring carried out for more than ten years shows that the amount of litter on our country's beaches has decreased, but in terms of littering, only Merenkurku and Selkämere beaches are in a good condition. In other sea areas, the situation regarding littering is weak, and there is no monitoring data regarding inland waters. Garbage often ends up in the sea and waterways by being carried by stormwater and wind. The source of littering is humans and human activity - including construction.

The amounts and types of waste generated on construction sites vary depending on the stage of the construction site. The risks for debris are also different due to, for example, the location of the construction site and the weather conditions. Because of this, the waste management plan must take into account changing situations. In the plan, it is good to also deal with the handling of garbage around the construction site.

In addition to waste directly related to construction, construction generates consumer waste such as food and beverage packaging and cigarette butts. When familiarizing yourself with the job, it is good to review the site's practices regarding smoking and eating. There is a reason to follow these good practices outside the construction site as well.

Preventing littering requires concrete actions: clear rules of the game, necessary waste receptacles and the right attitude form a good foundation. For example, with the help of regular cleaning crews, the general areas of the construction site can be kept clean and cleaning does not become a one-time chore. Each employee, in turn, keeps his own "plot" permanently clean.

At construction sites that are aware of their responsibilities, special attention is paid to cleanliness. A safe and efficient construction site is created from small actions. Investing in cleanliness promotes workplace safety and also reduces the risks of tripping, among other things. Trips and slips are one of the most common causes of accidents on construction sites. The cleanliness of the shared workplace is taken into account from the contract stage until handing over the machine and is constantly monitored while the construction site is in progress.

A clean workplace not only improves the safety of employees, but also makes working more efficient. When tools and materials are organized, employees can find what they need quickly and easily. Waste management planning plays a significant role in promoting the cleanliness and efficiency of the construction site. Well-planned waste management ensures that there are enough collection tools and they are placed so that the site can be kept clean as easily as possible. Time is also saved in moving waste and finding collection points when the waste management plan is carefully made.

It's always nice to see a neat raksa both inside and outside the construction site. So let's keep ours in shape!
