VastaMäkinen: The magic of Christmas and smooth political winning

This way, during Christmas, everyone is in a good mood and faith in the goodness of the world brightens. It feels good that the government has thought about how to make citizens' lives a little smoother. Namely, a project has started under the leadership of the Ministry of the Environment, the aim of which is to support the smoothness of permit procedures for renewable energy and green investments.

The goal of the project is to present recommendations for solutions where permit applications would be centralized at one point of contact, digitized and made user-friendly. The presented alternatives are based on a model where one authority would be responsible for the management and coordination of the permit processes. And controlling the processes goes smoothly, of course, perhaps from the comfort of your own home. This has been awaited like Santa Claus, and this without taking a stand on what everyone believes in.

It feels good that a group of officials are sitting somewhere thinking about how to make the licensing issues so clear that even the license applicant can understand them. To the gift wish list, I would add the wish that the project succeeds in its goals, because investments in renewable energy and green investments are needed. In addition, I hope that applying for various subsidies could also be concentrated in the same window. They have proven to get these things going, even though there have been several loopholes.

The survey project focuses on finding ways to speed up the introduction of renewable energy. However, simply streamlining the permit procedures does not increase the speed enough to achieve the goals of the green transition. At the same time, you have to take care of starting the projects. It requires the organization of functioning financing and long-term financial support from the state as well. Right now, there would be capacity to implement repair projects, but do we have enough political courage and creativity to utilize it?

At Christmas, it's appropriate to believe in everything good. So let's be ready for a future that, at least in terms of permits, is brighter than an LED light on a Christmas tree!
