Summer work experience can play a significant role in future career choices

Lujatalo has already hired under-18s on construction sites for several summers, and the experiences have been excellent. HR Director Minna Silvast believes that the doors to the construction industry should be opened to young people as early as possible, and encourages all companies in the industry to recruit young people for the coming summer.

"Early exposure to working life creates a good foundation for a future career. It is important that those under 18 also get to see and experience what construction is really like," says Lujatalo's HR Director. Minna Silvast toteaa.

Silvast emphasizes that young people receive the same basic orientation as other employees, but they are also reviewed for special safety requirements for minors. “Young people should be treated equally with other personnel, but their employment always involves special responsibility. At Lujatalo, each young person is assigned a responsible person who takes care of orientation, safe working methods and supervision,” he reminds.

Lujatalo invests in guidance and high-quality orientation to ensure that young people's first experience in the construction industry is inspiring and educational. "It is important for us to find roles for young people where they can genuinely learn, gain insight and experience success. We are also continuing to develop cooperation with educational institutions and schools so that we can offer young people a clearer path from internships to longer-term employment," says Silvast.

Minna Silvast, HR Director at Lujatalo, encourages all construction companies to recruit young people for summer jobs.

At Lujatalo, employing young people is seen as an important investment not only for the company but also for the entire industry. Young people bring fresh energy, digital skills and new perspectives to construction sites. Every employment relationship with a young person, whether it is a TET period, an internship or a summer job, is an investment in the future.

"A positive first contact with working life can be a decisive factor in the direction your career will take later. It is important to be able to offer an experience that opens doors and leaves a positive impression. A young person who has a good, safe and appreciative experience is likely to return to the industry later. Lujatalo wants to continue and strengthen the employment of young people so that the expertise in the construction industry remains strong in the years to come," says Silvast.
