Working group presentation: RT's skilled workforce business group takes care of the industry's attractiveness

In RT's skills needs survey, three out of four respondent companies estimate that the need for labor will increase over the next decade. How is the availability of experts secured? The group's chairman, Skanska's HR Business Partner Timo Piili, explains the activities of the skilled workforce business group.

What is the purpose of the skilled workforce business group?

In the group, there is a dialogue about RT's strategic goals related to the availability of experts and training in the field, and of course how to achieve the goals. In the end, the challenges are common and it's great that ways to influence can be sparred together.

Who are the group members?

RT's board annually names the members of the group, who represent the member companies of RT's unions. Most of the people are the HR representatives of their companies.

What has been at the top of the group's agenda in 2024?

Despite the exceptionally challenging times, the need for labor in the industry will grow and the availability of experts, especially in the longer term, will be critical for our companies.

One of the group's goals is to promote international recruitment for white-collar workers. A great method of action this year has been the Future Dialogue focusing on international students with a wider group of educational institutions and companies. Concrete withdrawals from there are e.g. tandem internship, where a student from Kv and a Finnish background do their internship in cooperation.

Right now, we also have to digest the results of the skills needs assessment.

Describe the group in three words.

Enthusiastic, professional, open.

Why should you participate in RT's committees/workgroups?

The challenges in the availability of talent are common - together we can also influence them! Perhaps the most important thing, however, is the sparring within the group, as well as the connections to and experiences with other industries gained in the group.

Tasks of RT's skilled workforce business group

  • Promoting the availability of skilled labor
  • Monitoring education and workforce policy and analyzing goals and reforms
  • Developing the attractiveness of the construction industry together with the communication group and RT

On this page, we present RT's committees and working groups. RT's committees and working groups, consisting of representatives of member companies and RT's employees, are one key way for member companies to influence RT's operations. In addition to RT-level groups, industries also have their own committees and working groups.
