RT's sustainable construction group coordinates the industry's common goals and actions related to ecologically sustainable construction. This year, the changing regulatory situation in both Finland and Europe is on the agenda.

The group's activities are explained by the chairman Anne Kaiser, Marketing and Sustainability Director of Saint-Gobain.
What is the purpose of the sustainable construction group's activities?
We collect information on ecologically sustainable construction and environmental issues and prepare the industry's common goals and the necessary monitoring metrics. We prepare and coordinate the industry's joint actions and identify goals and actions by which the industry and member companies can promote the green transition competitively.
In addition to climate issues, important themes for the group are natural diversity (biodiversity), sustainable use of natural resources and circular economy, and finance (taxonomy). In connection with these, RT has several development projects going on regarding the EU level and national regulatory development, the implementation and use of the results of which is coordinated by the group from the point of view of influence and communication.
Who are the group members?
The group consists of RT's member companies' environmental and responsibility experts and managers representing the construction industry comprehensively. RT's experts from various industries bring their expertise to the group's use. RT's board appoints the members of the group based on the proposals received from the industries.
What is the group's top agenda in 2024?
The group's agenda at the beginning of the year has been the strongly changing regulatory situation both in Finland and in Europe (including the Construction Act with regulations and CSRD). Along with legislative changes, the national circular economy green deal and the donation of building materials have been discussed. Legislative changes and various voluntary activities and programs will also remain on the group's agenda in the fall.
The sustainable construction group has points of connection with themes covered by RT's other groups, such as responsibility. June's joint meeting with the digital group produced good inputs that we want to work on, so we will meet again at the end of the year for a joint workshop.
In addition to the traditional sharing of information and meeting discussions, the sustainable construction group uses versatile operating methods that involve and activate members, such as workshops and group working methods. Last year, the group had the opportunity to play the Climate Fresk game, facilitated by its chairman, illustrating climate change with its causes and consequences.
Describe the group in three words.
Competence concentration (all industries involved), committed, open to new things.
Why should you participate in RT's working groups?
A lot is happening in the field of sustainable construction all the time. Participating in group activities enables learning together and keeping up with the times. The support provided by RT's experts and the broad scope of the group members create good conditions for fruitful discussions and building understanding, which will carry the industry as a whole as well as individual member companies to a sustainable tomorrow.
