Working group presentation: With a group of influence on communication in the construction industry

This article starts a column where we present RT's committees and working groups. They are one key channel for member companies to influence RT's operations. The first to be introduced is RT's communications group.

Committees and working groups consist of representatives of member companies and employees of RT. In addition to RT-level groups, industries also have their own committees and working groups.

The chairman tells about the activities of RT's communication group Kirsi-Marjut Dickman From Kreate Oy.

What is the purpose of the communication group's activities?

The task of the communication group is two-way: on the one hand, we guide and support RT's communication by conveying the views of the industry in RT's direction, and on the other hand, we take RT's messages to our own organizations.

With joint communication projects emphasizing strategic themes, we want to increase the effectiveness of communication, improve the reputation of the construction industry as a responsible and competent pillar of society, and support the development and growth of the industry.

Who are the group members?

In addition to RT's communication representatives, our group includes 16 professionals from member companies who are responsible for communication in their own organizations. The permanent members are from the six largest construction multi-industry groups (YIT, Skanska, Peab, Luja, SRV and NCC) and ten other members from RT's various industries. Industries nominate their own members for two-year terms.

What is the top agenda in the communication group in 2024?

We meet four times a year face to face around current themes to plan future implementations and joint communication projects. In August, we also organize a traditional media evening.

There is a lot going on and something to communicate in the responsibility work. Among other things, RT is in the process of preparing a responsibility program and updating the low-carbon road map. The purpose is also to continue the social media campaign with the nature-considering theme.

The weak construction market, which has received a lot of attention, will certainly pick up in the future, and a shortage of skilled workers may appear quickly. That's why it's important to create faith in the future, highlight the industry's successes and the professionals behind them, strengthen the skills of those in the industry, especially with regard to the green transition and digitalization, and encourage young people to study construction.

Through communication, we influence the growth of professional skills and increase the attractiveness of the industry. This year, RT is establishing a new kannualalle.fi website for Vetovoima communication.

Describe the communication group in three words:

Inspiring, professional and active.

Why should you participate in RT's working groups?

I warmly recommend working groups, because they offer a genuine way to make an impact, exchange ideas with people working in the same field and get excited about new ideas and ways of working. Under the leadership of RT's qualified professionals, the working groups share a lot of information about current issues in the field and together develop the construction industry in different areas.
