The season of road works is about to begin. According to an estimate, about 10 percent drive at a speed that exceeds a traffic fine on a road construction site. The situation would be improved by accurately monitoring the speeds and finding out the results.
"Kevat keikkuen tulevi" and with it professional men and women walking around in their colorful clothes, as well as work machines. The work is done with traffic passing by all the time, so the safety of employees and passers-by must be taken care of.
For those working around machines, the speed limit is almost always 30 km/h. Unfortunately, according to a rough estimate, about 10 percent of passing motorists and motorists drive at a speeding speed that exceeds the fine limit despite the restriction.
There are too many "almost liked" situations, even though the statistics in this regard are incomplete. According to the police's assessment, too many people have a reckless attitude to the 30 km/h speed limit.
Restriction 30 km/h, speed 93km/h!
There is some indicative data on driving behavior. A few years ago, Lemminkäinen Infra Oy studied the speeds on Kantatie 40 in the Turku region together with Varsinais-Suomen ELY-keskus.
Construction Manager Mika Häkli Lemminkäinen from Infra Oy says that the speed display was installed on the asphalt spreader at the paving site. "About 18 measurements were made during the two weeks. Most people followed the restriction. Slight overspeeds, 000-35 km/h, were observed in abundance and overspeeds of 50-51 km/h several dozen. The highest measured speed was 60 km/h,"
Tero Ahokas The actual Finnish ELY center regrets that the data has not been carefully recorded, even though experimental measurements have been made in the Turku region.
According to his intuition, the recklessness of motorists and motorists has only become more common. He therefore recommends that the Finnish Transport Agency take the initiative and make a thorough investigation of the subject. Based on research information, the situation could be corrected.
Road works that slow down travel annoy passers-by. However, the momentary annoyance turns into years of satisfaction when the traffic is made to flow flexibly.
